Thank you for visiting the Coalition of Lighthouse Schools website. It is our hope that this website will help you gain a glimpse of what is possible with technology integration in an Independent school environment. It is also our hope that you will make connections with teachers, IT professionals, and administrators at other private schools who have a passion for equipping students with tools that harness the limitless power of technology to enhance the learning process.

The Lighthouse Initiative was a pilot program started by Apple Computer, Inc. that began around the new millennium. It was designed to help Independent schools that were committed to using state-of-the-art technology, to pioneer wireless, one-to-one laptop computing programs and thus enhance teaching and learning.

Our non-profit organization began at the second annual iSummit in the summer of 2004 in Nashville Tennessee. Several Lighthouse schools from across the country gathered to discuss the best ways to integrate the use of wireless Apple iBooks within their curricula. We are a group of schools who have made a commitment to one-to-one computing as a significant means to equip our students to be leaders in the 21st century. We believe that the world will require our students to be discerning researchers, clear and concise communicators, and persuasive presenters of critical information. We also believe that the 21st century will be lead by those who possess the aforementioned skills and are skillfully adept at using technology to showcase those skills.

If your school has a one-to-one laptop computing program using Apple technologies, or if you at least have a portable laptop cart with a plan to one day extend the program, we welcome you to partner with us in exploring the possibilities of helping students learn more deeply through the integration of technology and thoughtful curriculum.
